These guys came home last night. It is good. Ronin is a toddler not a baby any more.

Oh No – Oh Yes!
The chocolates have started to arrive at the office. Three boxes yesterday.
Chocolate is one of my Big weaknesses. Good chocolate just melts in one’s mouth – and slides right down to the hips.
I predict some heavy duty dieting once the holiday season is over. I have very little faith in self control. I fall victim to me impulses most every time I pass the boxes sitting there on top of the file cabinet.

Ahhhh Parties
We had a party tonight. It was our annual Family Advent Program with the usual astonishing talent and this year it was followed by a catered finger food (ie:wings and ribs and wraps and lots of sweet stuff) meal and games night. I think Pictionary was the biggest hit. We had a good evening together simply enjoying each other’s company.
And Roger had a great time – even caught up on reading the paper. I swear this is his favorite activity!
Among the musical greats doing their stuff was Massa with an animated version of one of the latest Lingala Christmas tunes,
the Vandersluys Family Singers,
And Meself trying my best to bow some tunes out of my new bass. (You can tell I am concentrating by the serious look I have.)
There are more pictures which I will post over on Flikr.

Maybe I should just go to bed
I guess this is just one of those weeks that seems endless and terribly busy. It’s Wednesday already so half the work week is gone.
Before I know it Christmas will be here and I am in no way ready for that big event. It is a big family event and it is good but for some reason it makes me feel tired this year. I am very glad that Rachelle is coming home for a few weeks. I hope she will help me make some goodies, decorate the tree and help make the tourtiere.
I am on call this week too so maybe that is part of the busyness at work. There have been a lot of emergencies added to our regular schedule. Emergencies are always such an unknown. There is always a certain amount of paperwork so if they are late at all, some of the appointment time is gone. Then I have to figure out what their emergency is. Sometimes it is not an emergency at all but some vague pain in the tooth stimulated their brains to equate any sort of discomfort with toothache and thus to the patient it is an emergency. Therefore, being a diligent dentist with diligent staff, they are fit into the schedule – somewhere.
Add to that a weekend that had no breaks for me, a council meeting last night, trying to meet a deadline that I set for my next quiz in Greek in order to keep up and meet my goal of when I want to complete the course, too many late nights combined with waking up too often in the middle of the night or too early in the morning – and I am becoming so very tired.
Oh, yeah, and I am trying to practice hard at the Christmas carols the orchestra is playing for our local Festival of Trees.
I guess my tiredness is well earned.
Maybe I should just go to bed.

Winter Vacation
It was a beautiful way to spend a few days. The weather was mild. A fog kept the landscape covered in white.
It was so quiet in the forest that as the ravens flew overhead their wings could be heard beating the air.

Merry Christmas
Chilling out after a big day yesterday. The leftovers are just about gone. I remarked to my kids that it is a bit like a flock of vultures descending on the remains!
I am enjoying some of the gifts received last night. I am getting my new little i-pod touch set up. So, I have been playing with that. We also got a new and faster router so downloading songs and pictures is not so painfully slow. Stuff does not time out on me at least. Now when I watch a you-tube clip I can watch it without waiting for it to download in little bits.
New cordless mouse too. Nice.

Home for the Holiday
One batch of whipped shortbread out of the oven, Sara has done a batch of sugar cookies, and she is in the process of making some sweet little cheesecakes. The sugar cookies were consumed almost as soon as they were out of the oven.
Everyone is back in PA for the holiday. Christian even cut his gig short by one day to make it back for sure. You have no idea how glad I am for that.
It is good to have all my kids back home but it is going to be quite a day tomorrow. There is still a lot of stuff to cook, potatoes to peel and turkey and ham to cook. And there are still some gifts to wrap.
You know how everyone laments the commercialism of Christmas with all the gifts we spend our money on. But for our family, it is a coming home time, a time of celebrating who we are as a family. We are lavish in our giving to each other and to those around us that we love. I guess it is a way of celebrating our bond of love to each other. Even the volatile parts of who we are, and how we put up with each other is amazing at times.
And I guess if this is a time of remembering that Jesus came to bring peace on earth, it is fitting that this celebration over the past few years has become a healing time for our family.
So the noise levels will be high. Grandpa will be told he needs to turn up his hearing aid and turn down the TV repeatedly. Babies will cry and coo. The cousins will run around and have a great time. I will be ready to retreat to a quiet spot if I can find one by Christmas Day when our festivities will be winding down already.
Then we pack up and for the first time try something new. Off we go to Waskesiu for a few days in some cabins out there. We’ll see how that goes. I hope we can relax and have lots of fun together.

Preparations
The last toutiere has just come out of the oven. Seven. Should do us for Christmas Eve and maybe a couple other meals over the holidays.
The tree is up and decorated. It is a beautiful tree. Gaudet’s – a local tree grower. Choose one that is heavy. They are all bundled up so it is not as if one can see what they are getting. But we have a beauty! Rachelle was a great help. Mostly I held Ronin while she decorated. That was also good.
Sara writes her two last exams tomorrow.
Shopping is pretty much done.
Christmas is coming.

Doesn’t he have the most beautiful hair! He looks a lot like his dad – so far. Has dad’s forhead and nose.
You will find a set of pictures of this little guy if you click on this Flikr link.
