a new site that I had not come across before. The Portal It actually looks to me like a rather new place to visit. Got some interesting stuff going on – has potential for a place to exchange views. Check it out.

It is good…
to have spent 34 years married to Leo. It sounds like a long time, and I guess it is. But it has been a good long time with my best friend.
Today we spent together – alone – after the kids took off to the lake to enjoy the sun and hot weather. So we vegged out in front of the TV under the fan. Tonight we are going to a movie – The Bourne Supremacy.
It has been a great weekend. Our friends were married and that was a good and fun event. I was the Matron of Honor(that sounds old, but anyway…) and this is the first wedding I have been part of except my own and my childrens since I was a flower girl when I was 5. But I am very happy for my friends and I think they will be very happy together. I will put some pictures up in a couple of days.
Today I also got all my Congo pictures downloaded. So you can look for them in the gallery in a day or so.
I think I can put in a picture of the wedding yesterday.
I look back over the past 4 or 5 years as I have gotten to know my partner and as I watched these two fall in love. I am very happy for them. They will be good for each other.

Cared for
A couple of verses – Psalm 3: 3 and 5
vs 3:
But you, O Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, and the one who lifts my head high.vs 5:
I lay down and slept.
I woke up in safety,
For the Lord was watching over me.
Both of these were verses I kept coming back to this summer. God was so good to me, so protective and so generous. It was good to feel so completely cared for. I think I learned to trust God more deeply. It was good to know many people were really praying for me and that I could depend on them to keep me in their prayers.
Now off to another busy day. Work – then wedding rehersal tonight.

Got a bug, I think.
So here I am back in the land of computers and it seems as if ours has gotten infected with some bug that may be worse than anything I could have picked up in the Congo. We have virus protection and all but it seems as if something has gotten through. so I am going to be spending a whole lot of time backing up what I can and then we’ll have to see if we can clear things up. So meanwhile, I will try and post from the office. But my postings may be scarce for a few days.
In any case, with the wedding coming up on the week end, and me being the brides witness, I will be rather short on free time anyway. There will be time to tell stories though, I promise, in the weeks to come.

Some sort of flu bug seems to have gotten to me. I ache and alternately shiver and sweat.
But today has been too busy to take much time to be sick. Gatecrashers then breakfast with Randall. Then banking. Then a fun chore – choosing flowers for the upcoming wedding of my friend and lunch with her. Leo did not want to be left out so he met me in mid-afternoon for coffee. Good thing I do not have the stomach flu!
Since I am going to be away – far away, with no internet access, Randall has agreed to post some things that I e-mail him to my blog here. So I hope I can keep you updated on happenings in the Congo at least weekly.
I have also post dated some entries that will keep you in touch with my location and sort of what I think I will be doing.
Not sure I will get to post anything tomorrow. There are a few chores to finish and then in the evening my kids are all (all but one) coming over for supper.
We are just about gone….

It's Grad Time Again
Tonight we went over to the beginning of the grad exercises for Christian. It all begins with mass over at the Sacred Heart Cathedral. Christian was one of the candle bearers for the altar candles for the Eucharist. Kind of a big event. As you can see the Bishop and three other priests performed the mass.
Everyone was glad by the time the evening was over. They think the gowns are way too hot. It was pouring rain after the mass so the traditional class picture on the steps of the cathedral had to be cancelled. It will be taken tomorrow in the commons area of the school instead – unless it is very sunny in the morning. The grads were glad one step in the process is done.
Tomorrow the grad exercises – supper with friends – Grand March – party!

… have been added to the gallery. I am getting used to the new software for downloading them from the camera. I think it is going to work out OK. Got to get some practice before the big trip.

Yesterday
Today it has been raining all day but yesterday was an absolutely gorgeous day. In the morning, I was our on the deck on my porch swing looking up into the bluest sky. You could see forever with not even a wisp of cloud. The trees are becoming such a vivid green after the rain of a few days ago. And overhead – a huge pelican high above – white wings with black tips moving freely across the sky.
In the late afternoon we had our annual church slowpitch/barbecue.
I went to watch some of the game knowing that I couldn’t go to the barbecue. Then since I was covering dental call for the city – I got the only call of the whole weekend just after I got there so didn’t even get to stay and cheer the old timers on to victory. Not sure who won.
In the evening we had a farewell barbecue for a staff member of mine.
She’s been my assistant for about 7 years and now they are moving out of the city. This was the only weekend we could hold the farewell before I leave. It turned out to be a beautiful evening. And of course the TV was moved out to the deck so no one would miss the Calgary / Tampa Bay game.
I took along my new camera to the days events and am hoping to get some pictures posted here as soon as I am done my chauffeuring duties for the evening.
And the rain today will make a big difference to the land which was becoming too dry. So it is very much appreciated if not actually “enjoyed”.

Busy, busy, busy
Last sedation day today before the summer break. All of today’s kids were great. It was a good day, but busy with a few extra emergencies thrown in.
Just have a wee bit to finish up on another seminar. Will finish that up tomorrow.
Sara had her first soccer game this evening. The last games in Regina were rained out. I guess they will have to make them up sometime. The girls won tonight against Aurora from Saskatoon. Think the score was 4 – 2. I had to go to this one. It is probably the only one I will get to watch before leaving for the Congo. There is just too much to do as far as packing and everything to take the 2 hours in the evening right now.
Oh, am I ever beginning to feel the pressure before the trip. So much to do.

Ahhh!
Rain at last. The first moisture of significance since the last snowfall. It is very refreshing and needed. The land up here is parched, the river is the lowest I have ever seen it, and some farmers have not bothered to seed this spring. So be patient you southeners who have had enough rain already. We need this one and if it has to pass over you too – so be it!
