This is a test

Just seeing if I can upload video.

And I think I’ve got it.

If so I will upload some videos we take while on vacation.  Hopefully quality will improve as we go.

Back to the routines

First day back at work.  Twas a very good full day too. And I am tired.

And a day of waiting for news about a friend’s surgery – and that did indeed go well.  He had a lot of folks praying for him and we’ll keep that up till he’s backup on his feet again and then some as he recuperates and maybe does some cardiac rehab.

Had a visit after supper from the great Zaka.  He had to come and pick up the things Grandma brought him from Chicago.  And have supper.  And ice cream.  Then the boys discovered the hammock in the back yard and had a ball.

Then I recommenced my evening bike rides.  Two weeks in Chicago did nothing form my weight loss program.  Riding the Rotary Trail is so nice in the evening.  The deer were out  on the far side of the river too, coming down for their evening drinks I suppose.  I love watching to see what wildlife will show up.

Visiting TO

Here I am sitting in Ronin’s room.  He is asleep on the couch.  The flight arrived on time but of course it is two hours later here than home so it is now past midnight.

Tomorrow we are supposed to go to the beach.  It may rain but I think we are going anyway.  It is so humid here that I’m not sure a little rain will be noticeable.

I have a whole day to spend with this branch of my family and I will savour every minute of it.

Neighbors

Well, it seems I have acquired a new friend.  A little friend about five years old.

On the weekend when I was outside with Zaka attempting to interest him in some prolonged pedaling on his little bike – at least not to stop pedaling when he got it started – one of our new neighbours came over to see what was up.  J is 5 and since Zaka is 41/2 they hit it off and had a good time.  J especially liked the strawberries and ice cream that I dished out to all the grandkids and also to him.  That afternoon the kids ran around and played cars and rode a bit on the bikes and watched some TV together.

Tonight, my doorbell rang.  There stood J at the door.  I explained that Zaka wasn’t here today, that he was at his house but assured J that I would call him over to play the next time that Zaka came for a visit.

J must have been bored or just very curious.  He first wanted me to come outside and play then instead of Zaka. I told him that I was busy cooking supper and just couldn’t come out.  So then he decided that our cat really needed to be petted and could he come in and pet the cat please.

You really have to see J to fully understand how helpless an adult can be trying to refuse the request of a little guy with extremely thick glasses with speech somewhat garbled from his missing front teeth.

Our doorbell rang three times during supper.  In he came to check out the landscaping activity in the backyard but especially to pet the cat who willing snuggled up to him as if this was a very special kid that needed to be loved.

The house is quiet again

The last couple of hours have been so quiet.  I went out and planted some of my planters, loaded the dishwasher for the umteenth time today and wiped down the table.  Having a house full of people, including little ones with sticky fingers, makes for a lot of dishes and wiping up.  And this afternoon while I was watching Zaka for his mom, the neighbour kids came over too.  So for a while we were a hub of activity.

Leo’s brother left this morning with a load of plants and some of the hostas escaping from the edge of our flower bed – slated for annihilation anyway.

This afternoon Sara and Christian headed back to Saskatoon.  Sara has loads of clean laundry and has a couple more weeks of class.  Not sure just what Christian is up to.  Music of some sort I guess.

Tomorrow it is back to work.  It will be nice to settle back into the routine, busy as it is.

And I will have my space back.

I love having everyone here but my introverted self sure is glad when the quiet descends on us again.

Big Day Tomorrow

Today was the day in between.  Yesterday was the second birthday of a Lanoie princess.

Tomorrow – well I’m not sure what that makes me but for sure I’m no longer a princess.  But the princess’ grandmother turns a year older too.

So we are having a little party.  It should be nice enough to have do some burgers on the barbeque.  Burgers and junk food.  Cake and such.

It will be a good day to celebrate our lives and family.

So now I am forever indebted to …

Roger.

He has just finished doing Z’s fillings in the OR.  Sedation did not go  very well the other day.  And since it would be pushing what is considered ethical I could not do him in the OR myself. And I felt the cavities were just too significant to leave for a year or more till Z is big enough to tolerate Grandma working on him.

He is out of recovery now and it appears to have gone well.

Z and I will spend the afternoon together so his mom can get back to her studies this afternoon.

Still here

Just tired and swamped by demands of study and normal family stuff.  Keeping my head above water – just. Becoming more and more appreciative of the effects of caffeine.

Still haven’t loaded any pictures from the weekend.

But here I am at work, sedating another grandson today. Last one for a long while I hope.

That was hard work

Another grandchild that I had to sedate and do some work for – Ronin this time.  Thank God it was just a small filling.  I was able to do it without local anaesthetic so it was done in just a few minutes of holding him down to get it done.  A sedated child is not necessarily a cooperative child – just one that will not remember that his grandmother did such a horrible thing to him.

Actually Ronin was quite a happy tipsy little guy.  He would rather have played.

But that is done and I am VERY glad.  I do not really like having to do this for my grandchildren.  But the alternatives are more than my kids can afford right now.

So here I am

Made it to Toronto last night about midnight their time. The flight was good – not full, so I shared a seat with myself.  Every introverts dream seating.

I watched a good Canadian made movie about a single mom from Palestine moving to the US – the challenges of moving to a new place with racial and religious prejudice.  That helped the 3 hours pass faster.  I also read one of the books I need to be up on for my course.

And my book promised for delivery by Jan 8 did not arrive by Jan 8, so I am short on the required reading.  The joys of living in the boonies.

But anyway, I am sitting here in Rachelle and Asen’s living room while Ronin watches his new DVD and plays with his cars.  He’s a good kid – let me sleep in his room last night on his comfy bed.  It is fun to see him and his mom and dad too.  This afternoon I will let Rachelle do a pedicure and manicure and all sorts of esthetic wonders on me as I visit her at work.
