New camera

This weekend while I was in Saskatoon I picked up a nice little digital camera – purse sized.  My last one met with an untimely end.  The LCD screen seemed to have received a fatal blow.  It is hard to take pictures when you can’t see what you are shooting.

The one I chose was a Pentax Optio RZ10.  I didn’t do a lot of research but I like what it can do and the feel of it in my hand.  Besides the button are placed well and the price was extremely right.  I was on sale.  Hard to resist.

So today I took it out for some trying out.  It was a gorgeous day, a bit windy, but all in all perfect for pictures and for walking in the outdoors.  Seems to take nice pictures.

The zoom on it is not bad for a little camera either.

I think I am going to have fun with this.

A lot can happen in a week or so…

Spring has come.  It comes so fast. Each year I plan on getting out into the country to pick pussy willows and see the crocuses come up.  And for the past few years I have missed all of that.  It happens and then is gone. This year I am going. Today should be quiet enough for me to maybe pack up some of the grandkids and go pussy willow hunting.

The fuzzy little creatures are already appearing in the trees next to my office.  The sun is shining and the weather should be perfect.

Today we celebrated

It was a great day.  We celebrated paying off the mortgage on our church building.  Thirty years or so.  It started in 1980 with only $5000 raised.  We are not a big congregation and we are not wealthy.  We did it by keeping at it and by the grace of God.

I’ve put up a set of photos from today on Flikr.  You can check them out here.

We shared in a banquet today and had a great time.

Sorry about that

I just haven’t been around here much lately.  Who would have thought that semi-retirement from dentistry would leave me so busy!  Today will be another day jam-packed with things to do.

Yesterday I sat surrounded by old albums, newspaper clippings, photos, etc and began to put together a presentation for our upcoming celebration at our church.  We have finished paying the mortgage and that is something to celebrate.  Since I wasn’t around in the days when the building was being built, I had some research to do.  MJ has been a wonder at digging up the info I needed.

But the building was built before the days of digital photography. Now we take pictures of everything.  Not so 30 years ago.  I’ve had to dig hard for stuff to use in a powerpoint show!

But it will be ready.

Morning colour

There really is nothing better than visiting friends in the field.  I am always refreshed – body and soul.

The first morning I woke up to a beautiful display of colour.  I think God must live in the area.

Country Store

The women at our church go all out for a bake and craft sale once a year in the fall winter.  It was a frosty day but the sale went on and here are a few pictures.IMG_2794

Getting ready and then the crowds came.  The soup was good and we had a fun day.

It is always about this time of the year that I swear that  for next year I will have gotten my act in gear and made some crafty little stuff.  However… I usually end up buying lots and not getting much made.  Next year…

Pictures of PEI trip

I didn’t take nearly so many pictures as in Europe and the weather was not nearly as warm.  I did manage to head out into the country on the last day we spent in PEI, rented a car and spent the morning driving north to the St Laurence coast, up to Naufrage (Shipwreck Point)

and then across the island to the south coast which is on the Atlantic.

A set has been made and you are welcome to enjoy the view and the fall colours simply by clicking here.

Wrapping it up – mostly

Today I spent my down time at the office labelling and arranging the photos of the last city we visited in Europe.  Barcelona, Spain.  This is a place I wanted to visit specifically to experience some of Gaudi’s architecture.  It could have justified spending a few more days in Spain but… that’s how it goes.  There is never quite enough time to see all the wonders of the world.

So if you want to see some more beautiful architecture, you might want to checkout the latest sets that I have put together on Flikr.  La Pedrada and La Sagrada Familia.  I would go back to see La Sagrada Familia again.  In that place one experiences a sense of awe and wonder and can read some of the story of God in the stones.

For those who love fabulous buildings

You really should visit Cordoba.  But maybe visit it in the fall or winter. Unless you enjoy extremely hot temperatures.

You can visit it by pictures here – mostly we saw The Great Mosque since we only had one day there.  The Great Mosque is also the Cathedral of Cordoba and a World Heritage Site.  Well worth a visit.
