“Teach us to number our days that we might apply our hearts to wisdom.” On a day like today, when I am naturally inclined to number all 365 x59 of them , it seemed a highly appropriate scripture for the morning. Birthdays have a way of reminding us of many important things.

This is a cool tool
Jordon mentioned Windows Live Writer on his blog and the way he was singing its praises I decided to try it out. I liked the sound of an easier way to upload pictures into the blog. I used it yesterday and pictures are easy to insert into the entry. I think I still have things to learn about it – like how to line things up and all. But I think it will be a tool that I use regularly.

Introducing
The latest beauty to join the Lanoie ranks. Kimia. For those of you non-Lingala speakers, Kimia means peace.
Sara thought that she had Eric’s brow. I think her face is a bit puffy from the way she was sitting in utero and it is too soon to really admire how beautiful she is and how much she must look like her mother.

Another Grandchild
is on the way!
Update
We have another granddaughter! Kimia Valerie Violet Lanoie. This is a long name for a little bundle – 6lbs 9oz. Born by c-section(a face presentation) at about 8 tonight. All the grandparents were present and got to hold her for a bit.
I think Dad is pretty proud. Michelle is probably glad this is done. She was still in recovery when I left to take care of their dogs and cats for them.

Meme
Wendy tagged me with a meme – so here goes.
Six non-important things about myself:
- When I am looking through a magazine I usually start at the back. And I have no idea why.
- I have a huge fear of heights. Especially high bridges. Driving over them makes me feel as if I am going to drive over the edge so I keep my eyes fixed on the car or lane immediately in front. Walking over such a bridge would probably make me sick. Flying for me, however, is perfectly fine.
- Back in the 60’s when going braless was a sign of impending feminism, my girlfriend and I decided to do it while we were the head cooks at our church camp. I doubt that anyone noticed. We were both skinny and flat chested.
- I do not like to have to take any medication in liquid form. I do not like to have to taste stuff like that. Unfortunately, most liqueurs also have the same effect on me and remind me vaguely of cough syrup.
- I have a built in navigational sense that lets me, most times, retrace my route to a place I have visited before. It is best if I was doing the driving but most times I can sense the way somehow even if I could not tell anyone else how to get to the destination.
- I love shoes. I love the feel of good leather and the comfort of a good fit. I love unique colours and style. Most of all I love it when a good shoe has both comfort and style and comes in my size.
I won’t name names but if you want to do this consider yourself tagged.

Update on Aunty Florence
Well, it seems as if my aunt will be in the hospital over the weekend. Nothing momentous has happened but the doctor wants to get some things regulated before she goes home. Some changes in meds, etc.
So, if anyone feels like going up for a visit she is in room 506. I’ll be fetching her walker and things for her so she can feel a bit more at home. Not being at home is stressful for her.

Imagine
I set up my laptop to write a bit and they have wifi out here.
My kind of retreat centre!
Well, as for a real retreat it might be better if it wasn’t here, but I do have work to do and this will help a bit.

He’s awake
I’ve spent all afternoon over at the hospital. Leo came back to his room at about 12 noon local time. They moved him into his bed and he and I spoke a bit, I hooked him up to his CPAP machine and let him go to sleep again. He has just spent a lovely sunny afternoon, temperatures in the 20″s, sun shining brightly, just about the most perfect weather a Saskatchewanian could wish for – sleeping. Ah – drugs!
Me, who am not on drugs has managed to finish a book and take several catnaps in the warm sun coming in through the hospital window. I decided finally that Leo’s company was just too stimulating! So, I hopped in a taxi and came back to the hotel for a bit. I’ll probably grab some supper before going back. I think Leo will be allowed to drink some clear fluids tonight.
Anyway, he seems to be doing fine. The surgery apparently went “perfectly” if one can believe this as literal truth from a wonderful but quite passionate Latino physician. He is sweet and his patients love him. And I trust that he is right in Leo’s case. The rest of the work of losing weight will be largely up to Leo and he is as determined about this as I’ve ever seen him determined about anything.
Thanks to those of you who have prayed for us during this time.

And off we go
Down to Saskatoon – leaving in a few minutes.
Tomorrow am early flying to SanDiego via Minneapolis. Retrace our steps on Monday.
An adventure of sorts, if you can think of surgery in those terms!

My new word
Solipsistic – adj.
one who believes in self as only reality: the belief that the only thing somebody can be sure of is that he or she exists, and that true knowledge of anything else is impossible
And just where will I use this wonderful new word that I had to stop and look up while I was deep in my reading?
