39

Yeah, that is how many years I have been married, as of today.

For the most part they have been great and I wouldn’t trade him in for a new model for love or money.  Not for love, cause he is the one and only man I’ve ever loved.  Not for money either cause he is worth more than any amount of money could acquire.

After all, who else but a husband of 39 years would spend the afternoon of his wedding anniversary doing the laundry?  After getting him so well trained why would I want to trade him in.  He’s just mellowing well with age.

(and I’m not getting any younger either)

Last night we spent the evening with good friends eating too much, drinking too much and laughing an awful lot.

Tonight we spent the evening quietly together at Chandeliers which is becoming one of our favourite places to dine out.

Now, I think I am ready to preach in the morning and I put together some things for the Sunday service for the family reunion next week.  So off I go to bed with my book in hand.  And your imagination can figure out if I read or…celebrate.

What a good weekend!

All weekend seemed like one big party/visit.  And it was.

Leo’s brother Paul was up for the weekend so Leo was busy entertaining him.  PAUL visited the farm and saw the llamas that Michelle bought at an auction.  Pets for Kimia I’m sure.  Then he went shopping with Michelle while Leo and the guys watched CFL – Yeah Roughriders!  He came home with some fish which died overnight and some plants which were still living this morning when he left.

Yesterday was Kieran’s sixth birthday party.  The plans were to have a barbeque out at Little Red Park.  It was a beautiful day yesterday and there was not a single picnic table to be had out there.  So just before I left for the park, thinking that was where the festivities were happening, I got a call.  “Can we all come to your place?”  So there you go – always have the house in some reasonable semblance of order for these unexpected occurrences!  We have a nice yard and over the weekend I actually did a lot of weeding and planting and had gotten it in decent shape.

So we celebrated in style.  Kieran had a good time and that was the main thing.

Riding and thinking along the way

Yesterday by the time supper was over and I had sat down for a bit, the sun came out and I decided that I had better go for a ride. If I slack off on the bike riding, it takes more motivation to do it the next day. Funny how it is that way with good things – or at least with things that are potentially good for me; it takes absolutely no effort to sit in front of the computer and play mindless games.

I really do enjoy the rides. And the sky is usually gorgeous with an orange sum settling below the tree line on the horizon as I make my way home again. Also, there is now a path that takes me down the hill behind the houses in Riverview back to the river path. I ride up the road to the church then go left on the path – The Rotary Trail as it is officially known – the path takes me now past a new housing development and then down the hill. The hill is very steep. It is exciting to let go and take off at great speed. Probably crazy for a 60 yr old woman. But fun. I like it.

Last night when I was riding, I took a slightly different path. I was just a bit too tired to pedal up the hill by the church so I cut in behind Berezowsky School and took a back path that took me about halfway up the hill. A bit less of a thrill but still enough of a descent to let me go fast.

On my way back home last night, I got to thinking. I am reading NT Wright’s book Surprised By Hope. This is some of the fun reading that I can do now that my classes are done for the summer. I really like the way books like this stimulate me to think. As I was riding, I could not help but wonder at all the things that I do not understand. Maybe that is partly why I am in seminary. There is so much to delve into, so much more than I will ever understand but so much that I will enjoy trying to learn. I have some sort of need to spend my time asking questions and then when I do, up pop some more. It seems as if I have an endless ability to ask and such a limited ability to know.

Under the blue sky

I was sitting outside reading through my almost done paper listening to the cries of the gulls and the loud caws of a flock of crows.  They seemed to be doing battle of some kind.

Then far overhead I noticed an eagle soaring high up in the clear blue sky between two pure white clouds.

Beautiful.

I need to be outside more!

A day off

This is the first day that I have been home on a weekday for ages.  I was going to say that it is the first day I’ve had with no preset agenda but I had to withdraw that thought.  In a few minutes I am off to a hair appointment and then I have some errands to run.  I must work on the paper for my class today as well.  So, I guess in reality my agenda is already pretty full.

But today I will also plant the last of my flower baskets – a chance for me to be out in the sun working in the dirt, planting some beautiful things.

I will also go for a ride, hopefully for an hour or so, on the Rotary trail which is close to completion at our end of the city.

Maybe I will get to spend some time talking over coffee with a friend – we’ll see.

So, I’d better get going.

Greener

Thought it was time to go a bit greener around here what with summer seeming to be on its way.

Hope I am not speaking too soon.

Just listening

Here I stand on my loft deck looking over the river on the fading daylight. There are the inevitable background city sounds. Across the river there is traffic on the highway. But here, it is very still. I am listening to the gueese settling on the river for the night and to the songbirds that are still up.

This is a good place to be.

On a less stressful note

It is my hubby and best friend’s birthday today.  He joins me now in my old age.

DSCN1951

Sixty years suits him well I think.  He gets to become a doting grandfather and having lost well over 100 lbs in the last year, he has more energy to invest in life.  In fact, he was off to play golf at 6 am today to begin his birthday celebrations.

Looking forward to the next batch of years we have together.

Snow And Ice

I would post a picture but I have misplaced my point and shoot camera.  And besides, it is too depressing.  Everything is covered in snow and ice.

Poor budding branches.  Poor frozen leaves.

Friends are so great

Today I was planning so many things to do.  Our turn for serving soup was here and I wanted to help.  However, I have a sermon to preach tomorrow and a LOT of studying to do to finish up my Greek course.  (It seems as if the closer I get to the final, the more stuff is filling up my evenings and keeping me from studying.)

Anyway, last night I went out.  My friend, A, was involved in a show with some of her art and I really wanted to go both to support her and to see her latest works.  So I did.  The glass of wine was a nice way to relax as I walked around with other friends and we took in the show.  I was so tired last night having spent a good part of the day in the OR.  And other friends were there and told me that I would only be needed for a part of the day to help in the soup kitchen.  That bit of news was such a relief.

Then this morning I got a call and was told that so many other folks from church had come to help that they would not need me at all.

There was another load lifted away!  I love to help and so I miss being there but this time studying and sermon prep did need to take priority.  I see this as one of the little ways that God watches out for me.  It might just look like luck to you but whatever, I see God in this.

So, I have been studying  pretty much all day, except for a trip up to Canadian Tire to pick up a few necessities.

Now, since it is finally warm again, I might just take the bike out for a few minutes.
